Chanting Mantras

Mantra
Man = mind
Tra = liberation device
The practice of mantra is called japa.
Another translation I found for mantra is man = profound meditation and tra = releasing.
In Hindu scriptures mantra is called “that which when contemplated and repeated will offer protection”.
Many traditional mantras stem from the Vedas and the Upanishads which form the final portion of the Vedas.
Mantras are sacred words of power. Sound vibration produces energy and the sound of the mantra has an effect on the physical, mental and spiritual level.
Sound is a very powerful force. Sufi master Hazral Khan says “divine sound is the cause of all manifestation”. Mantras are based on the fifty letters in the Sanskrit alphabet and these correspond to the fifty petals of the chakras (energy centers in the subtle body). Pranic energy is increased in the chakras through mantra changing.
To increase the effect of mantra it is better to be focused with intention (ie the reason for chanting). The language is only an approximation, it is the sound that will create the experience. This means that it is not always necessary to fully understand the meaning of the mantra.
Mantras are energizing and powerful and will over time quiet the mind.
Anushthana japa is a repeating of a mantra for a predefined number and is practiced for two purposes.
purification of the self for spiritual progress through psychic discipline (part of bhakti yoga) awakening the higher forces of kundalini (part of tantric yoga)
Anushthana means ‘performance, observance, accomplishment of an act with absolute discipline, according to a self-chosen or prescribed, detailed plan’.
The number of mantras is calculated according to the number of syllables, 100,000 mantras for each syllable, ie 5 syllables should be repeated 500,000 times. A mala (108 bead rosary) is used for counting the number. Once a number is decided the anushthana should be completed as quickly as possible with no alterations.
There are universal mantras that are used by all and benefit everybody such as the mantra OM, or the Gayatri mantra for achieving enlightenment.

Individual mantras are normally given to a person by a guru. Once you have received a mantra you must stick to it. One should not start mantra ‘shopping’ or ‘hopping’. The guru normally specifies the amount of repetitions required per day. This is the first initiation into spiritual life.

From the unreal lead me to the real, from the darkness lead me to the light, from death lead me to immortality.
May all beings ..dwell in happiness, ..in peace, ..attain oneness, ..attain auspiciousness, and happiness be unto the whole world.
We worship the 3eyed one (Shiva) who is fragrant and who nourishes all beings.
May he liberate us from death for the sake of immortality.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
The Maha Mrityunjay is a mantra that is said to rejuvenate, bestow health, wealth, a long life, peace, propsperity and contentment. The Mantra is a centuries old technique of connecting one to pure consciousness and bliss.

The prayer is addressed to LORD SHIVA. By chanting this Mantra, Divine vibrations are generated which ward off all the negative and evil forces and create a powerful protective shield. And it is said to protect the one who chants against accidents and misfortunes of every kind. It is a vibration that pulsates through every cell, every molecule of our body and tears away the veil of ignorance. It ignites a fire within us that consumes all our negativity and purifies our entire system. It is also said to have a powerful healing of diseases declared uncurable even by the doctors. It is a Mantra to conquer death and connects us to our own inner divinity.

Known as the Moksha Mantra of Lord Shiva, Maha Mrityunjaya evokes the Shiva within and removes the fear of death, liberating one from the cycle of death and rebirth.
Om Tryambakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pusti - vardhanam /
Urva - rukamiva Bandhanan
Mrtyor - muksheeya Ma - amritat //
Meaning :
Om. We worship The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is naturally fragrant, immensely merciful & and who is the Protector of the devotees. Worshipping him may we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe cucumber easily separtes itself from the binding stalk i.e.By your Grace, Let me be in the state of salvation (Moksha) and be saved from the clutches of fearful death.
The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is very much a protector from accidents, mishaps and daily calamities in the modern busy life.

10) The statue of Hanumanji should not be placed in South-East. It may create fire hazard.

11) All the doors should open inside so that the energy may remain inside.

12) The hinges of doors should be noiseless. If so. The hinges may be greased periodically.

13) The doors should open towards right hand.

14) Small decorative plants and shrubs may be grown in the north and the east.

15) If north of any shop is blocked it blocks prosperity.

Basics of Vastu: The five elements
(PANCH MAHABHOOT )

Vaastu is the science of direction and architecture that combines all the five elements of nature and balances them with the man and the material. Vaastu Shastra is creating a congenial settings or a place to live or work, in most scientific way taking advantages of the benefits bestowed by the five elements called “Paancha Maha Bhootas” of the nature thereby paving the way for enhanced health, wealth, prosperity and happiness in an enlightened environment.

The world comprises of five basic elements, also known as the Paanchbhootas. They are Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. Out of the nine planets, our planet has life because of the presence of these five elements.

EARTH (Bhumi):- here means composition of the surface of the earth , the soil and other minerals present in the soil. The upper part of the surface is called soil, Stone, sand, iron, lime etc., all these are parts of soil. All these physical elements are available in limited quantity and on a particular place. This depends on the composition of surface, its form and size, trees and vegetation grown upon it etc. that whether it will be appropriate to inhabit at such a place or not. Moreover if there is a residence there, what type of construction should be there. Availability of essential building materials and their transportation also depend upon the formation of soil. Soil can be categorized on the basis of its shape, touch , taste and sound . We must take care that it suits our physique while selecting land for building and collecting building material. There are many things described in Vaastu Shastra about the size and type of land and method of “Bhoomi Poojan“ are also explained in it .
Earth, the third planet in order from the sun, is a big magnet with North and South poles as centers of attractions. Its magnetic field and gravitational force has telling effects on everything on the Earth, living and non-living.

WATER (Jal) :- It is most essential for all creatures and is a basic element in construction. Water forms 3/4 part of body’s weight. All of us know about different forms and resources of water. The quantity of water available at present is limited and is less than the requirement. Not only for creatures and vegetation but also for house construction, water is needed in sufficient quantity. Therefore, it should be ensured before house construction, whether water will remain available or not. Usually, in most of the villages a pond is available along with ground water source, which is maintained by villagers themselves. People inhabit colonies on the banks of rivers, lakes and sea, where underground water is available in large quantity and wells can be dug up in a suitable place for colonies. Shape and size of building and life-style are designed at a place according to the availability of water and relation with land. Taking care of water also means the house is stable even during heavy rains, the building is not harmed and flood does not cause havoc. Taste forms, feeling and sound are characteristics of water.
This is represented by rain ,river ,sea and is in the form of liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam, cloud) . It forms part of every plant and animal. Our blood is nothing but water with hemoglobin and oxygen.

AIR (Vayu):- Atmosphere ( i.e. mixture of gases like Oxygen , Nitrogen, Carbon dioxide, Ozone etc.) exists around the earth up to 400 km height approximately. Composition of atmosphere and presence of vapours in it differ from place to place according to local situations. We cannot see air but we can feel and hear it. Air is an essential element for all living beings. It is essential to have correct supply, correct temperature
and pressure, correct percentage of humidity in the air for both kinds of comforts- physical and mental for man. Therefore, the shape, size,
construction and direction of buildings should be such as they have sufficient supply of air for healthy and comfortable living. No part of the building should remain without air. Foul air should not gather in the
building and fresh air should come continuously . From which direction air should enter or not is also important . In our country the air blowing from the South is considered baneful and inauspicious.
As a life supporting element, air is very powerful life source. Human physical comfort values are directly and sensitively dependent on correct humidity, air flow, temperature of air, air pressure, air composition and its content.

FIRE (Agni):- Fire circulates energy in the form of light and heat. The sun is the main source of light and heat for us. The movement of the earth in relation to the sun causes day and night and change in seasons. Rain and wind are also possible due to the heat of the sun. The sun provides living beings with courage, zeal and power. Most of the colonies in the world are found in temperate zones where Sun’s energy is available in sufficient quantity. Care should be taken that the building has constant supply of light, it is completely safe from fire, construction material is selected in such a way that it is fit for living comfortably in both seasons - in summer as well as in winter and it is not destroyed by lightning. Thus house construction plan is greatly affected by heat and light ( i.e. Fire ). Shape , feeling and sound are characteristics of fire .
It represents light and heat without which the life will extinct. All the days and nights, seasons, energy, enthusiasm, passion, vigour is because of light and heat only.

SPACE (Aakash):- Space is the most widely spread over of the five basic elements. The unending region of the universe in which all the heavenly bodies exist is called space (Aakaash). There is no place in the universe where this space does not exist. Gravitational pull of various heavenly bodies, magnetic power, different kinds of radiations and waves like ultra -violet rays, infra- red rays, light rays, cosmic rays, etc. are always present in space. Their effects can be felt in many forms, and many activities and designs (plans) in our life are conducted by their effects .Sound is produced in space only. If there is no space, sound waves are not possible. The form in which space permits the building will decide accordingly the form of our talking, singing and playing, weeping and other activities. The echo of our sound will go according to space. Therefore, the houses should be built in such a way The Five Main Elements and plan that these invisible forces of nature and the energies generated by them can be fully utilized and their harmful effects can be avoided. Human body is also made of five basic elements and similarly all the other things of the world are made of them. Therefore, the five basic elements existing inside and outside man have a constant though invisible relation which affects activities of life. In our residence or office buildings, etc., are constructed in a well- planned manner keeping in view the effects of “Panchmahabhoot”, i.e. the five basic elements - earth, water, air, space and fire- life can be full of more happiness and prosperity.
The ancient Rishis and Sages had knowledge of the relation between five basic elements and their energies and their utility in needed quantity. Therefore, vaastu shastra explains such principles of house building according to which appropriate use of the effects of these five basic elements can be achieved by selecting land accordingly, as soil inhabits our body, similarly our body inhabits a building. The effects of these five basic elements have been fully taken care of in the principles laid down in Vaastu Shastra, by which a residence can be made for a comfortable life and not merely for show.

Muhurat for House Warming Ceremony

Muhurat for House Warming Ceremony
The commencement of the work, laying of foundation stone, starting excavation and construction, fixing the main door should be done on particular dates of specific months, where the drishti or aspect of Vaastu is oriented so as to make the house fit for human habitation with ease and comforts, health and longevity, peace and prosperity. Vaastu purusha must be remembered and worshipped on three occasions during the period of construction i.e. during Aadi (beginning: foundation), Madhya (middle: fixing of main door), and Antya (end: during Grahprevash). It is very much emphasized in Vaastu Shastra that the location of the main door shall be where the drsihti of Vaastu Purusha is oriented during the particular occasion and the Grahapravesh from that door shall be performed, when the drishti is exactly in the opposite direction.
Laying the foundation: Laying foundation steps in the constructing a house. The foundation stone should either be laid in the Ishaana i.e. northeastern part of the entire plot or it should be laid in the northeastern part of the layout of the proposed house. It should always be remembered that the persons performing the ceremony of laying foundation stone should invariably face East. While foundation stone laying ceremony should be in North-East, the foundation stone, which must be flawless, without rough patches and grooves, should be taken to South-West corner and building construction should be started using that stone only as the first foundation stone. At no time, construction of foundation wall should be started in NorthEast.
Starting the Excavation: The excavation of digging the foundation should always be done in the NorthEast, the logic behind this principle is to keep the NorthEast level low and light always. Shukla paksha of Vaishakh (April-May), Shraavana (July-August), Maargashira (November-December), Pushya (December- January) and Phaalguna (February-March) are the good periods for starting the excavation and other months are considered inauspicious. The sun in Vrishabha, Simha, Vrischika and Kumbh raashi is considered very good; in Mesha, Karkaataka, Tula and Makara raashi is not so good; and in Mithuna, Kanya, and Dhanu and Meena raashi are considered bad for the excavation. The excavation should start at NorthEast, proceed towards NorthWest / SouthEast and should end at SouthWest.
Starting the Construction: Construction work of any building is to be started always only after Vaastu Poojan (worship of Vaastu) and Shilanyaas (lying of foundation) ceremony and Graaha shaanti. The initial point to start the construction is NorthEast where foundation stones are placed, but remember actual construction of foundation structure must begin only from SouthWest corner. The construction of building should start at SouthWest, proceeds towards NorthWest / SouthEast and should end at NorthEast. It should always be kept in mind that the NorthEast level should be kept lowered as compared to SouthWest corner. There are different effects of building the house in particular months. Building a house during:
Chaitra (March - April): It will result in financial loss and fearfulness;
Vaishaaka (April - May): It will bring good results;
Jaishtha (May - June): It will lead to the fear of death;
Aashaada (June - July): It will result in the loss of cattle wealth;
Shraavana (July - August): It is good for the welfare of the family;
Bhaadrapada (August - September): It is good for the welfare for the family;
Ashwayuja (September - October): It will result in unnecessary fight and enmity;
Kaarthika (October - November): It will ensure acquisition of wealth;
Maargashira (November - December): It will cause fear of many things;
Pushya (December - January): It will result in fear of fire and other troubles;
Maagha (January - February): It is good for the entire family;
Phaalguna (February - March): It will ensure gain in wealth, richness etc.
Following is the effect of commencing building construction on different days:
Sunday: Fear of fire
Monday (of Shukla Paksha): Happiness and all round prosperity.
Monday (of Krishna Paksha): Should not start the work at all.
Tuesday: Bad effects, fear of fire and death.
Wednesday: Gain in wealth and richness, happiness, family welfare etc.
Thursday: Long life, happiness & children will attain name and fame.
Friday: Happiness & peace of mind, full of good activities and functions.
Saturday: Even if the life of the building will be long, life of inmates will be full of debt, sorrow, misery, laziness and other bad effects.
Grah Pravesh: Once the construction work is complete, the next step to be taken is the "Grah Pravesh". For the Grah Pavesh in the brand new house,
- The months of Magh, Phalgun, Vaishak, Jyeshtha are considered most auspicious and bring all the benefits.
- All days except Tuesdays (Sunday, Saturday in some part of India) are considered auspicious.
- The Shukla Pakhsha (rising moon time) is considered best and the Krishna Paksha (declining moon time) should be avoided as far as possible.
- The Grah Pravesh should always be done in the daytime.
Any building construction or living started without proper Muhurat does not progress properly. A number of obstacles crop up and the work gets abandoned half way causing mental agony, monetary loss and many other problems. So it is essential to fix up "Muhurat" for everything if we want smooth sailing, success, prosperity progress and peace of mind.

The Four Great Goddess Mantra

The Four Great Goddess Mantra

HRIM
HRIM (pronounced Hreem) governs over the cosmic magnetic energy and the power of the soul and causal body. It is the prime mantra of the Great Goddess and ruler of the worlds and holds all her creative and healing powers. HRIM is the mantra of the Divine Maya that destroys the worldly maya. It has a solar quality to it but more of a dawn-like effect.
HRIM awakens us at a soul or heart level, connecting us to Divine forces of love and attraction. It is charming and alluring, yet purifying. Through it we can control the illusion power of our own minds.
In Vedic terms HRIM is a mantra of the Sun, particularly in terms of illumination. It increases our aspiration and receptivity to Divine light, wisdom and truth. It opens the lotus of the heart to the inner Sun of consciousness. It is a mantra of the region of heaven or the consciousness space in which all the worlds exist.
KRIM
KRIM (pronounced Kreem) governs over prana as lightning or electrical energy. KRIM grants all spiritual faculties and powers - from the arousing of kundalini to opening the third eye. It has a special power relative to the lower chakras, which it can both stimulate and transform. It helps awaken and purify the subtle body.
KRIM is the great mantra of Kali, the Goddess of energy and transformation. It is also the mantra of Indra, the supreme deity of the Vedas, the Divine as the cosmic lord and enlightenment force. KRIM is the thunderbolt or vajra that destroys the serpent of the ignorance and releases the light of absolute truth. As a mantra of work and transformation, KRIM is the mantra of Kriya Yoga, the Yoga of practice. It is the main mantra of the Yoga Shakti. KRIM carries the supreme life force. It is a strong mantra; use it with care.
HUM
HUM (pronounced Hoom) is a Vedic mantra of Agni or fire. It is the mantra used to make offerings into the sacred fire. It is also used to call or invoke the fire and to make it flame up more brilliantly. HUM is a mantra of the inner fire or thermogenic force. It represents the soul hidden the body, the Divine immanent in the world. It both calls the divine down into us and offers our soul upward to the Divine for transformation in the sacred fire of awareness.
HUM is a Shiva mantra; but it is also a mantra of Chandi, the fierce form of Kali. It is used to destroy negativity and creates great passion and vitality. It governs the earth and the material sphere in general.
HUM is a powerful mantra; hence it should be used carefully. However, it can be used in a more gentle manner to invoke divine grace and protection. Through it we can offer ourselves or our afflictions into the Divine for purification and transformation.
SHRIM
SHRIM (pronounced Shreem) is a mantra of love, devotion and beauty.
SHRIM is a Lakshmi mantra, the Goddess of Beauty and divine grace. Yet SHRIM works at a deeper level than merely to give us the good things of life, including health. It takes us to the heart and gives faith and steadiness to our emotional nature.
SHRIM allows us to surrender to, take refuge in, or be immersed in whatever we offer the mantra to. It is the mantra of beauty and delight and has a pleasing lunar quality. It also relates to the head and can be used to flood the senses with divine beauty and delight. It promotes health and aids in fertility and rejuvenation.
The Four Great Goddess Mantra
HRIM, KRIM, HUM, and SHRIM are four great Goddess mantras that govern the prime forms of energy as magnetic force, electrical force, heat, and delight. These four mantras can be used together with OM to get an extremely powerful mantra:
OM HRIM KRIM HUM SHRIM!
This brings about an integral development of body, mind and soul in harmony with the Divine or inner Self.

रंगो का रंगी संसार
Colors plays big roll in our inner outer world
Although the primary colors are only three; traditionally there have been seven main colors which also form the constituent colors of sunlight - violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red। Upanishads have related these colors to seven Chakras (subtle energy centers) in our body। A change in these colors has a corresponding effect upon the body-mind system. If the magnitude of this change exceeds a certain quantum, it produces ailments.
The red color is associated with mooladhar chakra (supposed to be located between genitals and anus)। It symbolizes vital force, determination and alertness। Its medicinal use is in the conditions of cough and cold, anemia and low blood pressure. It is also employed in management of stress. Red produces courage, revenge and hatred too. This color represents the fire element. Hence it generates heat and energy in the body. It excites the nervous system and thus cures the weaknesses connected with the faculties of touch, smell, taste, vision and hearing. It keeps the blood constitution robust and active and hence is beneficial for cerebro-spinal fluid and sympathetic nervous system. Red color is friendly to muscles, haemoglobin and liver too. At mental plane, red color generates over-sensitiveness and is also known for anger, violent disposition and irritability. In certain conditions its use is prohibited as in emotional instability, anger, fever, hypertension, etc.
The orange color is associated with swadhisthan chakra (located in the groin)। On physical plane it is beneficial in injuries, functions of spleen, pancreas and lungs, calcium absorption, lactation during pregnancy and pulse beating. It promotes hopefulness, happiness, will power, intelligence, creativity and social sense. It cures asthma, bronchitis, cold, seizures, stone-problems, hypo and hyperthyroidism and lung related ailments.
Yellow color is connected with manipura chakra (solar plexus)। It is symbolic of mental activity, intellectual prowess and alertness. It purifies nervous system, brain, liver, intestine, blood and skin. It also regulates bile production. It is considered cathartic and brings joy and buoyancy. The golden yellow color strengthens the body and mind and increases learning capacity. At the same time it also increases anxiety. Since the yellow color is a combination of red and green it has the characteristics of both. It promotes optimism and hope. It is very beneficial in digestive functions as well as in skin disorders, paralysis, constipation, diabetes and depression. But its use a prohibited during burning sensation, diarrhea, fever, state of agitation and increased pulse rate.
Green color is a symbol of peace and adaptability. It is related to anahat chakra (situated in heart/lungs). It keeps the body and mind calm and is beneficial during mental agitation. But its prolonged use brings boredom. Green keeps active the sympathetic nervous system, controls blood pressure and stimulates the pituitary gland. It removes insomnia, tiredness and irritability. It is also helpful in muscle and tissue formation. It is antiseptic, bactericidal and germicidal. Green color promotes friendship, faith and hope. It is soothing and gives emotional comfort. At the same time it also generates jealousy and superstition. As green is the color of chakra centered in the heart, it is helpful in heart ailments, hypertension, ulcer and headache। It also cures fever, acidity, metabolic malfunction, obesity, and liver and spleen problems. Its use is prohibited in conditions of tumor, cancer, etc.
Blue color symbolizes peace, confidence, desire and creativity. It is also the color of Vishuddha chakra (located in the throat), considered to be related to speech and self-expression। The blue color slows down heart rate and hence is considered beneficial in tachycardia. It helps in reducing high excitement and manic depression. Blue is known for high spiritedness, intuition, honesty, truthfulness, concentration and devotion. It is used therapeutically in problems of tumor, infection, anger, hatred, eye diseases, pineal body etc. But it is prohibited in conditions of hypertension, paralysis, muscular stiffness, etc.
Indigo color is associated with Agya chakra or the third eye (located on the forehead between the eyebrows)। It symbolizes intuition, extra-sensory perception, etc।
